CHRIS THATCHER | CLUB MANAGER
With a lifetime of participation in various sports from Rugby to Athletics, Chris took the decision to turn his passion for fitness into a career. After completing university he studied for a variety of additional training based qualifications and began working with a number of large health club brands before joining Matt Roberts in 2007 and opening the City club in 2008.
Upon further exploration into the field of sports science Chris discovered a passion for injury rehabilitation and so completed additional studies in G.P. Referral and Corrective Exercise for Special Populations. This led him to work as part of a regional referral programme, helping those with cardiac and respiratory complaints as well as post-op rehabilitation.
Chris thrives on helping people to realise their goals with his specialist areas being muscular strength and conditioning, fat loss and endurance training. He is currently studying to become a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) to help further his knowledge and achieve ongoing results with his clients.
In addition to his work with Matt Roberts, Chris is the fitness coach for his former school's ‘Old Boys’ football club coaching both the 1st & 2nd XI. He remains a keen sportsman, taking every opportunity to push himself in both team and individual events. He has completed the London Marathon and is aiming to take on his first Triathlon in 2012.
ROGER CUE | SENIOR TRAINER
After working 19 years in an office environment, Roger took the decision to follow his passion for health and fitness and become a Personal Trainer. He successfully qualified with the Diploma in Personal Training and Sports Massage Therapy through Premier International Training in 2005 and commenced employment with Matt Roberts in May of that year as a Bootcamp instructor. Three months later he became a permanent member of the team and now holds the position of Senior Trainer at the City club.
Roger believes that everybody should be able to feel good about themselves and be motivated into living a healthy lifestyle through fitness and sensible nutrition.
His training expertise lies in cardio based workouts such as running, circuits and Boxercise at which he is a qualified instructor. Roger took up White Collar Boxing in 2004 and was involved in three fights, two of them taking place at Britain’s spiritual home of boxing, York Hall in Bethnal Green. He also enjoys taking part in running events ranging from 5km races to half marathons, his favourite being the Great North Run.
NICKLAS RYDEN | SENIOR TRAINER
Nicklas was involved in sports in his native Sweden from a young age, including slalom, football, athletics and martial arts. His years in athletics and martial arts sparked an interest in resistance training and performance enhancement.
In 1997 Nicklas moved to California in order to further his knowledge and graduated from San Diego State University with a Kinesiology degree specialising in fitness, nutrition and health. Since then Nicklas has continued his studies and gained credentials from the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) and Fitness Institute of Australia (FIA).
Nicklas believes in mastering the basics using correct exercise technique, varying the training according to the client’s goals, working hard, but having fun along the way. He believes optimal nutrition, exercise and plenty of sleep builds the foundation of a healthy lifestyle. More recently Nicklas has become interested in coaching focusing on lifestyle changes and fat loss.
Nicklas has worked all over the world as a personal trainer since 2002 in USA, Sweden and Australia before joining Matt Roberts in 2009.
STEVE GOODACRE | PERSONAL TRAINER
Steve is a highly experienced and knowledgeable trainer that specialises in the integrated fields of corrective exercise, high performance conditioning and lifestyle management. Qualified through a number of schools including the CHEK Institute, National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and Premier Global, Steve brings variety, dynamism and invention to his sessions.
Steve’s motivation is in seeing his clients achieve beyond their expectations and he believes that having fun and enjoying your training is an integral part of this. Along with achieving your personal goals Steve’s programming ensures that you will benefit from improvements in sporting performance, motor pattern learning and functional capability. You will find your sessions packed with challenges, games and some seriously hard work.
Away from Personal training Steve improves his knowledge base through attending seminars and studying articles and journals published by some of the worlds most reputed trainers. His personal sporting achievements are varied and extensive; however his main sporting interest is Rugby, which he plays to a high standard and trains for throughout the week. As well as his commitment to rugby he enjoys other sports including Boxing, Kickboxing, Tennis and Swimming.
DAN REDWOOD | PERSONAL TRAINER
During his time within the fitness industry Dan has trained numerous clients with various different goals. Having studied for a National Diploma in Sport and Fitness, focusing primarily on anatomy, training techniques and Kickboxing, he moved on to train with Premier Training International, qualifying as a Personal Trainer and Sports Massage Therapist.
Further to his training certifications Dan is also qualified to teach Spin and group exercise such as circuits and core stability. Additionally he is a qualified lifeguard and level 2 Cricket Coach the latter of which he uses to help run the youth sides at his local cricket club.
Dan specialises in corrective exercise, weight loss, muscle building, strength and conditioning, achieving great success with many clients in all of these fields. He believes that structured training and an expert understanding of nutrition is the key for achieving any goal and he prides himself on his knowledge of both key areas.
Personally Dan has had a lifelong passion for fitness and competed in many physical activities from football and golf through to swimming. His main sporting passion is Cricket which he now plays at a semi-professional standard within the Kent premier league.
ROYLAN EWERS | PERSONAL TRAINER
Roylan is a keen sportsman and has trained as an amateur in a variety of disciplines including boxing, football, and racket sports. His passion for exercise led him to begin developing a career in the sports and leisure field and he gained BSc in Sports Science with the London Metropolitan University, in addition to various fitness courses with the YMCA and ACSM, as well as the FA coaching badges to level 3.
To further progress his knowledge of Sport and Exercise Roylan has completed courses with the UK Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA), and is now an accredited strength & conditioning coach. This training enables him to develop effective and tailored training programmes, improving the performance of individuals based on their own attributes and fitness goals. In addition to his academic learning, Roylan has used his strength and conditioning in a variety of practical settings including working with professional football clubs helping to improve speed, agility and power of young players as well as working with players in their rehabilitation from injuries.
Both the training that goes into improving peoples exercise performance, as well as people’s perceptions towards training is a fundamental element of Roylan’s training, as a result he employs a diverse mix of training specialism’s, such as plyometric, callisthenics and agility training, challenging and motivating clients with new types of exercise.
Roylan is committed to further enhancing his passion for fitness and to further develop his knowledge of the scientific aspect in improving exercise and athletic performance; with this in mind he is beginning a master’s degree in Strength and Conditioning.
HANNAH PAYNE | PERSONAL TRAINER
Hannah developed a passion for fitness from a very young age which lead her to compete in a wide range of sports from netball to athletics, where she trained and competed for several years. She graduated from Oxford Brookes University in 2009 with a Degree in Health, Exercise & Nutrition and during which she gained experience in the fitness testing of elite athletes including Cyclists and Triathletes.
She has since completed her Master Trainer Personal Training qualification with the European Institute of Fitness in Spain. Following this she went on to a career in corporate personal training working with a range of varied clients. Hannah is qualified to teach body pump, spinning, ab attack, boxing and circuits all of which she thoroughly enjoys. She successfully trained for and completed the Tough Guy Challenge, Survival of the Fittest and Vertical Rush.
Hannah has travelled extensively around the world, including trekking in the Himalayas and also successfully completing Tour Du Mont Blanc. She is currently working towards her next belt in kickboxing and has set her sights on competing in a Duathlon. She is always looking for exciting new challenges to push her physical boundaries.
DAN BOYCE | PERSONAL TRAINER
Dan's has had a passion for health & fitness from a young age. He completed his Personal Training Diploma specialising in key areas such as Nutrition, Client Lifestyle Analysis, Fitness Assessment and Training in Different Environments. Once completed, Dan went straight into the industry experiencing a range of clients with many different goals. He also undertook further qualifications whilst there including, Kettlebell, TRX, ViPR and Powerplate training. Dan has also lead Bootcamps and is qualified to teach classes such as Spinning, Circuits and Ab Attack which bring a different approach to his training.
Dan's main sport is football which he has played to county level. His motivation is driven by achieving any client’s goal no matter how challenging they may be. He strongly believes that by combing hard work and fun throughout your sessions, you can achieve anything you want and enjoy a happier and healthier life.
CLINTON FRETWELL | PERSONAL TRAINER
Originally from New Zealand Clinton has always led an active lifestyle. He has participated in exercise from early childhood with a passion for sports such as tennis, beach volleyball and touch rugby, all played at a competitive level all of which has contributed to his respect for exercise and healthy living.
Qualified as a Level 3 Personal Trainer from the Australian institute of Fitness in 2007 Clinton was freelancing and running group based beach Bootcamps in some stunning locations in Melbourne before moving to the UK in 2009 and completing his REPS Level 4 qualification in lower back pain management.
Clinton provides training for all abilities, especially in the areas of weight loss, strength and conditioning. He creates workout programmes to help individuals reach their personal fitness goals, which he carries out with his own unique enthusiasm, motivation and energy.
He believes that exercise should be fun, enjoyable and never a chore. He is committed to helping people achieve their health and fitness goals, getting great pleasure in seeing individuals make big life changes through regular exercise.
